A 25-year-old man has died after the van he was driving collided head-on with a lorry on the E20 north of Götene.
Traffic is being diverted after the accident.
The accident happened at Brännebrona at 3pm on Monday. The man in the van is said to have been pinned in the crash.
– It is a seriously injured person and a serious accident. It has been a severe collision and we will investigate the circumstances surrounding it, said Johan Håkansson, the police’s press spokesperson in the West region, initially.
According to the police, the driver of the truck was awake and able to speak after the accident.
The police are investigating the cause
During the evening, the police announce that the driver of the van, a man aged 25, is dead. His next of kin have been notified.
“The cause of the accident is being investigated, initially under the classification negligence in traffic”the police write on their website.
Both the truck and the van are impounded for technical examination.
Traffic is being diverted after the accident. Alternative routes are route 49 from Skara to Skövde and route 26 from Skövde to Mariestad in both directions, the Swedish Transport Agency writes on its website.
The Swedish Transport Agency’s preliminary forecast is that it should be fixed by 09:00 on Tuesday.
