Warmest day of the year: 33 degrees in Oskarshamn
The warmest day of the year has been recorded – again.
On Wednesday, it was 33.4 degrees in Oskarshamn, followed by 32.8 degrees in Målilla.
But now cooler weather is expected. News, reports and analyses in Sweden and around the world.
On Tuesday, the year’s heat record was broken, when it was 30.3 degrees in Målilla, Småland.
The resort already had a year-high of 29.9 degrees on April 15.
New heat record in 2025
But now Målilla has been surpassed by another town in Kalmar County. On Wednesday, 33.4 degrees were measured in Oskarshamn, which means that this year’s heat record has been broken again.
– It has been hit by three degrees, you can tell, says Viktor Bergman, meteorologist at SMHI.
Målilla came in second with 32.8 degrees, followed by 32.3 degrees in Lund, 32 degrees in Hörby and 31.1 degrees at the measuring station at Ängelholm-Barkåkra Airport.
– Then there is a station in Kristianstad that, unofficially, has also measured 33 degrees something. But so far that has not been confirmed, says Viktor Bergman.
Worse weather – SMHI warns
After the heat, the weather will change, to rain, thunder and lower temperatures. During Wednesday evening, a storm moved in from the west, and SMHI has warned of thunderstorms in large parts of Götaland and Örebro County, and of rain in Dalarna, Värmland and Hälsingland until Thursday evening.
– There probably won’t be any more records this week, but there’s a lot of summer left so it’s not impossible that we’ll hit 33.4 degrees later, says Viktor Bergman.
The warmest ever in Sweden was in Målilla in June 1947 and in Ultuna in July 1933. Then it was 38 degrees Celsius.
