NEW YORK. With only two months left until the start of the Olympics, Victor Hedman is injured – again.

He was forced to sit out Tampa’s road game against Montreal last night after one period.

– It’s a rather worrying injury, we’re keeping our fingers crossed, says coach Jon Cooper.

As recently as this weekend, Victor Hedman returned to the Lightning’s lineup after a month on the injured list, but the Angermanland back star only managed to play two full games before he hurt himself again, it is unclear how.

At the Bell Center last night he took part in a period. Then he sat in the booth in the middle period and then the message came from the club:

Hedman is injured and will not play again tonight.

Exactly what kind of ailment it is about, and to what extent it is related to the one he just came back from, there is currently no information about, but unfortunately coach Jon Cooper sounds more concerned than he usually does.

– It is a rather worrying injury. He will be examined more thoroughly tomorrow, we are keeping our fingers crossed, he says.

Victor Hedman is already selected in Tre Kronor’s Olympic squad and has made no secret of the fact that it is a lifelong dream that is finally waiting to be realized in Milan in February.

It would be a personal tragedy if an injury crushes that dream – and it would also be a heavy blow for Tre Kronor.

Tampa won the night’s match 6-1. Pontus Holmberg scored a fine goal – free after jumping straight from the penalty box – and so did former Brynäs defender Charle-Edouard D’Astous in the first game of his career at the Bell Centre.
