Ellevio on the power outages: “Can last for over a week”
Storm Johannes causes extensive power outages, mainly in Hälsingland and parts of Dalarna. During the day, nearly 40,000 of the electricity grid company Ellevio’s customers were affected.
– It is very difficult, especially in Hälsingland. It is exclusively about trees falling on power lines, says Jesper Liveröd, press manager at Ellevio.
The outages primarily affect customers in sparsely populated areas with long cable runs. The harsh weather also complicates the repair work.
– The winds are intense and our service technicians cannot work safely. Then the staff have to wait, which means that the interruptions take longer, says Liveröd.
Many households are expected to be without electricity until at least tomorrow.
– This is a string of blackouts. It is more extensive than expected, he says.
Ellevio has raised the alert and is calling in extra staff. It is expected that the electricity will be back on Sunday morning, but the post-work may take a long time.
– In some cases it can take even longer. The finishing work can last for over a week.
The advice to the public is to stay indoors.
– Do not go out unnecessarily. Fallen power lines pose a danger to life, says Jesper Liveröd.
