Traffic situation ahead of Midsummer: “Will increase”
The Midsummer weekend is one of the biggest traffic holidays of the year and 2025 is no exception.
According to the Swedish Transport Administration, there are still many cars on the roads at 6 pm on Thursday.
– It has not been accident-free, it has not been, but most of it has been sorted out, says Bengt Olsson at the Swedish Transport Administration.Latest news clips from Expressen.
Millions of Swedes travel during Midsummer and the weekend is one of the busiest of the year. So far, however, most things have gone well, says Bengt Olsson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.
– There are plenty of cars out on the European roads, but that doesn’t matter because they swallow a lot and can handle it. It’s better to stay there than take the back roads.
The day before Midsummer is when most people who are going to travel further are out on the roads. On Midsummer Eve, trips are usually shorter.
– If you’re traveling in the local area, if you live in Stockholm you might go out to Värmdö or Roslagen. It’ll start to pick up at nine o’clock tomorrow morning and increase towards lunch. It’s probably the most at eleven or twelve, but by two o’clock it’s dead, says Bengt Olsson.
“Up to 60,000 people are expected”
Dalarna is a popular destination for many Midsummer enthusiasts. Mats Öhman is the press spokesperson for the Bergslagen police.
– There is a lot of traffic, but it is relatively calm. Nothing in Örebro County. In Dalarna, there it is increasing a little, but no accidents have been reported. You can probably expect that traffic will increase during the evening, not least at Leksand.
The police have a special operation in Dalarna during the evening.
– Up to 60,000 people are expected, many will come tonight.
– If there is a lot of traffic, there is not much point in overtaking. But the weather conditions are good otherwise. Right now there is no danger on the roof.
The tip: This is how you should think
Bengt Olsson’s main tip for road users during the Midsummer weekend is to stay calm.
– It’s really your own mood that you have to watch out for. Not getting carried away and allowing yourself to get stressed, you can actually make up your mind a little there. It’s things like not staying too close to the car in front.
