Swedish super time in 3,000 meters

Sebastian Lörstad, 17, scored with a super time in 3,000 meters.

7.54.69 is a time that makes him the second fastest U18 runner in Europe of all time.

– Now there are six seconds left to the European record, he says.

It was on Wednesday evening that IFK Lidingö runner Sebastian Lörstad hit the mark with a great time at Lidingövallen in the 3,000 meter race.

7.54.69 stopped the clock and thus Lörstad beat the East German runner Hansjörg Kunze’s result from 1976. Only the Dutchman Niels Laros has run faster all time among U18 runners.

– It’s kind of funny that it was such an old time that I beat. I knew it right away when I crossed the finish line, I’m a bit of a nerd and check a lot of rankings and placements in lists, so I knew that time would give me second place, he says in an interview with the Swedish Athletics Federation.

Several personal bests

– Running in 7.54 was a shock. I was able to push really hard in the last 800 meters and the last lap went in 61 when maybe it should have gone in 63. Now there are six seconds left to the European record. It’s a difficult margin to take, but I think it’s possible with a good race and good hares.

The 17-year-old has developed at a furious pace and this year he has broken personal records at several distances. Among other things, he is also in the top ten on the world annual best list for U18s at 1500 meters and 5000 meters.
