Swedish players flee warm accommodation: “Outcry”

CHAM. The longing for air conditioning became too great.

Many of the Swedish players have chosen to change buildings to escape the Swiss heat wave.

– There was a bit of an uproar when we got here. “No AC?!” says Lina Hurtig.

Temperatures of over 30 degrees make the training environment challenging for the Swedish national team in Switzerland.

Even sleep has suffered. Therefore, many of the players have now chosen to move from their apartment complex and further into the main building at On Your Marks. An accommodation that was primarily intended for staff members as well as team and media activities.

– There was little life when we came here, but I have moved into this house, says Lina Hurtig and adds:

– I sleep better now and have AC in my room.

At the bottom of the building is a cooling ice rink – something that attracts Hurtig.

– I’m trying to get in there, but it’s a stop. I’m not allowed to go. Or, rather, not play hockey, she says with a smile and explains that it’s probably about the risk of injury.

“Just to get started”

For Sofia Jakobsson, and several other players, the rescue has been the purchase of fans.

“I now have a fan in the room and have been able to sleep very well,” says Jakobsson.

Stina Blackstenius is another player whose night’s sleep has also improved.

The striker is fully aware that it will be hot even during the opening match against Denmark, but knows how she and the team will handle that challenge.

– First and foremost, acceptance and then we can talk about how we can make it as good as possible. If we need to think about or change anything, says Blackstenius.

– We just have to keep going as best we can. It will be hot, but that’s just the way it is.
