Sweden won its home game against Norway

OSLO. Sweden was the best in the European Championship qualifier against Norway.

A dream attack paved the way for the 2–0 victory at Ullevål.

“Once it’s in place, it’s in place,” says Angeldahl.

13,919 people got to see Sweden score the only two goals of the match in Oslo. And there were no ugly goals that the crowd was treated to.

Sweden took the lead after a dream attack in the 17th minute.

Everything happened on one touch after Filippa Angeldahl had played Johanna Rytting Kaneryd deep. Rytting Kaneryd got the ball on the right wing and passed it to Stina Blackstenius who scored the Blue Yellow’s opening goal.

– Great play from Johanna. Somehow I manage to get to the ball first and get a little touch. Nice feeling! says Blackstenius.

Angeldahl thinks the goal was completely according to the blueprints.

– That’s a bit how we want to play in Sweden. 1-2 passes, then we can hit a cross and then it’s a goal. We want it to go fast and once it’s done, it’s done, says Angeldahl.

“A message of strength”

Rytting Kaneryd pays tribute to both teammates who were involved in the goal.

– Stina and I have talked a lot about the space between the goalkeeper and the defenders. I saw that she was gaining momentum, so I just had to put it in. An incredibly nice and beautiful football goal, says Rytting Kaneryd.

How nice is it to know that Stina Blackstenius is in form in the penalty area?

– It makes my job easier. All I have to do is put the ball in the box and it’s a goal. It’s of course a statement of strength from us today. I think we’re executing the match incredibly well and have a sharp attacking game.

When Sweden scored their second goal, Angeldahl finished the attack instead of starting it. She pushed the ball into the roof of the net through passive Norwegian legs who were trying to defend.

Travel to Switzerland

Norway also had several good scoring chances in the first half, but the sharpness was lacking and Sweden took a clean sheet to the European Championship.

The second half was more lackluster for both sides.

– Of course it’s a nice feeling. It doesn’t hurt your confidence, says Sweden’s national team captain Peter Gerhardsson after the victory.

On Friday, the Swedish squad travels to Switzerland to prepare for the European Championship. The opening match will be played against Denmark on Friday next week.
