Sporting president: “Not saying what the price is”

How much will it actually cost to buy Viktor Gyökeres?

Sporting’s club president speaks out on the issue.

– This is a soap opera, says Frederico Varandas.

According to reports, Viktor Gyökeres claims that he has been promised that he will be released from Sporting if a bid of 70 million euros (778 million kronor) is received this summer. According to Portuguese newspaper Record, Gyökeres feels betrayed by the club.

Club president Frederico Varandas has denied that such an agreement existed and has now spoken out about a possible move for the Swede.

“Unless he has the worst agent in the world”

He is clear that Sporting does not intend to release Gyökeres for that amount.

– I think Viktor can leave, unless he has the worst agent in the world, which I don’t think because he is one of the best footballers in the world, says Frederico Varandas according to Record and continues:

– I’m not going to say what the price is, but the player knows what it is. I can say one thing and that is that Viktor will not leave for 70 million euros. He will not.

Described as a soap opera

The club president says it has been a turbulent time with all the rumors surrounding Gyökeres.

– I’ve been at Sporting for 20 years. I’ve experienced a lot of transfer drama. But this is a soap opera.

27-year-old Gyökeres has been scoring goals in Portugal for the past two seasons and has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Manchester United this summer.

During the evening, the newspaper reported a new twist in the transfer saga. According to Record, the Swede has informed the club that he does not intend to return and play for the club again.
