Severe thunderstorms move in over southern Sweden

If you are in southern Sweden, you should watch out for lightning.

SMHI warns of severe thunderstorms late Wednesday evening and into Thursday night.

SMHI’s yellow warning went into effect at 10:00 PM on Wednesday evening. They write that torrential rain may also come with the thunderstorm. In total, rainfall amounts of 30 to 40 millimeters may occur.

The areas affected by the warning are Halland County, Västra Götaland County, the western part of Jönköping County, the western part of Östergötland and the southern part of Örebro County.

The weather is expected to last until 3 a.m. Thursday night.

Until then, the weather may cause flooding and longer travel times, among other things.

SMHI also urges people to stay away from tall things, such as trees and poles, and to skip the evening swim.

In general, they want people to stay indoors as it is dangerous to be outside when there is a lot of thunder.

Västtrafik, which manages public transport in Västra Götaland, warns that the weather could cause disruptions on several of their lines.

“Expect delays and cancellations on certain routes,” they write on their website.
