SD’s Member of Parliament Sara-Lena Bjälkö is leaving the party.
Instead, she goes to the Christian Democrats, TT reports.
The Sweden Democrats want her to leave her seat in the Riksdag.
Sara-Lena Bjälkö says in a statement to TT that it was not an easy decision.
“It’s not a decision I made lightly, but something that has developed over a long period of time,” she says.
KD’s “family-focused policy” has appealed to her for a long time, and she has also had good contact with the party both in the Riksdag and at home in Falkenberg, she says further.
SD’s demands: Resign
But the party is critical of her remaining in the Riksdag for the remainder of her mandate, even though she is elected on an SD mandate.
SD group leader Linda Lindberg tells TT that she respects Bjälkö’s decision and wishes her good luck in the future. But she should leave the Riksdag, Lindberg believes.
“Out of respect for the voters who voted for the Sweden Democrats, we believe that she should take her responsibility and leave her seat in the Riksdag available,” she says.
There will be no place in KD’s parliamentary group either. She does not formally become part of the group, although the leadership welcomes her to the party.
In a comment to TT, party leader Ebba Busch says that the Tidö parties have agreed to handle party changes within the collaboration like this.
SD declines to comment further on the riot, and refers to the statement to TT.
The defection is not the first from SD to KD in recent times. In November, Expressen was able to tell that Paula Bieler, who was previously one of SD’s biggest female profiles, is leaving the party for KD.
– The Christian Democrats have, in my opinion, the strongest voice for healthy values to permeate a good society, she said then and meant that she had “found a home” in the party.
