Russian response to Volvo’s investigation

Volvo has launched an investigation into a truck in Russia.

Now the company is being mocked by the Russian Ski Federation president, Yelena Välbe.

– A great car, thanks to Volvo, she tells RB Sport.

In early June, the Russian Ski Federation announced a major investment.

The cross-country ski team purchased a Volvo FH16 780 XXL Aero to be used by the gelding team.

The Russian Ski Federation’s president, Jelena Välbe, posed in front of the truck, and Sportbladet and several other Swedish and Norwegian media wrote about the national ski team’s million-dollar purchase.

Volvo investigates

Volvo stopped its sales to Russia in connection with the country’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and therefore Volvo has now launched an investigation.

– We are going through all records to identify to whom we have sold this truck model in this color in recent years, says Volvo Group press manager Claes Eliasson to the Norwegian Dagbladet.

The goal is to trace the vehicle back to the original customer and map how the truck ended up in Russia. If it is then found that a customer has violated the terms of the contract by selling the car to Russia, Volvo will take action.

Mock responses

Volvo’s investigation has reached Russia and Jelena Välbe directs a couple of mocking quotes towards Sweden when she talks to RB Sport.

– What a sensation! Thanks to the Swedes. A great car, thanks to Volvo, says Välbe and laughs.

She doesn’t care how the truck got to Russia, but welcomes Volvo’s investigation.

– Let them do it. They have nothing better to do. They should rather make more good cars like this than deal with nonsense, says Välbe.
