A man was found injured outside on Södermalm in Stockholm and has been taken to hospital.
The police are investigating the incident as a suspected crime.
At 2 pm on Wednesday, the police, ambulance and emergency services were called to the intersection of Bergsundsgatan and Högalidsgatan on Södermalm in Stockholm.
– It concerns an adult man who was found injured outdoors. Right now, it’s a lot for us to assist the rescue service, said Daniel Wikdahl, spokesperson for the Stockholm police region, at around 2:30 p.m.
Initially, it was unclear what caused the injuries.
– Initially, we don’t really know what it’s about. We investigate if we have to investigate, said Daniel Wikdahl at the time.
At 2:43 p.m., the police announced that the man had been taken to hospital by ambulance. The extent of the injury is unknown.
“Damn huge effort”
According to information to Expressen, at least nine police cars must have been on the scene during the operation. A witness who works nearby says that the closures affected traffic in the area.
– It was blocked off, it was not possible to get the car out 45 minutes ago. It feels like a damn big charge “just” so that someone would be injured, says the witness.
The witness also describes that there were shards of glass at the scene.
– We had heard if someone had shot someone, but there was a lot of glass shards at the scene of the accident. There was very high police activity both inside and outside the house.
Later in the afternoon, the police announced that a preliminary investigation into a suspected crime had been launched.
– We have started a preliminary investigation into a suspected crime, I cannot currently comment on how we label it.
– We have not found anything concrete, but rather it is that our initial thoughts about the incident have been reinforced, i.e. that it is an accident, says Daniel Wikdahl.
The police are still on the scene, but with limited resources.
