One shot at student celebration in Hässelby villastad

One person has been taken to hospital by ambulance after a shooting in Hässelby in western Stockholm.

Information from the scene says that the shooting occurred at a student celebration. 

– It’s scary, anyone could get in the way, says a neighbor.  News, reports and analysis in Sweden and around the world.

Just before 7 p.m. on Saturday, the police were alerted to a shooting in Hässelby villastad in western Stockholm.

When they got there, they found an injured person.

– One person has been shot. The person has been taken by ambulance to hospital and was initially awake and able to speak, but otherwise I have no information about the extent of the injuries, says Nadya Norton, press spokesperson for the Stockholm regional police.

According to Aftonbladet’s information, the injuries are serious.

– A hunt is underway for the perpetrator or perpetrators, says Nadya Norton.

Encountered at a student celebration

A neighbor tells Expressen that she heard two bangs. The neighbor says that she then looked at the clock, which was 6:54 p.m.

The sound came from a student celebration a short distance away, which had been going on since the afternoon.

– There were 40-50 people gathered at a large party tent, including young people of that age, and people who looked like parents and older relatives.

After the explosions, the neighbor went down to the scene with his daughter.

– You could immediately hear the tone change, so we went down there. It was clear that something had happened, so I turned to my daughter and told her to call 911.

– Someone said that a guy on a scooter or kickbike had driven by and shot a person.

The witness states that police, ambulance, and ambulance helicopter arrived at the scene a short time later.

– They provided medical assistance to the person lying on the ground, who was then taken away in the ambulance helicopter.

The fact that the shooting occurred so close to her own home was shocking, she says.

– It’s scary. Anyone could get in the way, says the neighbor.

Police interview witnesses in Hässelby

The police confirm that the incident occurred outdoors, and a crime scene has been cordoned off. They are securing evidence and interviewing witnesses, but Nadya Norton at the police does not want to go into whether there were many people who became witnesses.

She also does not want to go into the other circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The police have opened a preliminary investigation into attempted murder.
