Marchand looks to stop: “Oh my God, it’s happening!”

Brad Marchand, 37, looks set to extend his contract with Florida and stay with the club until he is 43 years old.

The news made teammate Matthew Tkachuk purr like a cat.

“Oh my God, it’s happening!”, he writes on Instagram.

The Florida Panthers have done a masterful job of keeping their Stanley Cup-winning team as intact as possible for next season.

Sam Bennett has extended his contract for several years, as has defensive back Aaron Ekblad.

Now it seems that Brad Marchand will also stay for a full six (!) more years.

The 37-year-old veteran has, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, agreed with the Panthers on a deal worth just under $32 million with a salary cap hit of approximately $5.5 million. Translated into Swedish currency, that would give the forward 300 million in his pocket if he plays out the contract.

At that time, the Canadian would be 43 years old.

Marchand spent 15 seasons with the Boston Bruins before they traded him to Florida at the trade deadline in March of this year. He quickly became a crowd favorite, but also very popular with the team.

When news of the extension reached teammate Matthew Tkachuk, he posted a picture on social media from a pool party with Brad Marchand.

“Oh my God, it’s happening!”, he writes.
