Liverpool talent pushed England to the European Championship final
1–1 in the U21 semi-final between England and the Netherlands.
Then Harvey Elliott, 22, decided with a fantastic solo performance.
– If Lionel Messi had done this, the world would have stopped, says former England international Joe Cole.
England is through to the final of the U21 European Championship. The big hero is Harvey Elliott.
The Liverpool talent who is rumored to be leaving the club had already scored a goal in the match when he received the ball on the right wing halfway into the offensive half of the field in the 86th minute.
The attacking midfielder spun into the middle, increased his pace and ran straight towards goal. One meter inside the penalty area, he fired his left-footed shot low – untouchable for Robin Roefs in the Netherlands goal.
– If Lionel Messi had done this, the world would have stopped. He has this ability. He can do it on such a consistent basis. England were dominant from start to finish. It’s such an exciting time for English football, says former England international Joe Cole on Channel 4, according to the BBC.
The goal means that England is ready for the European Championship final for the second championship in a row.
Can leave for half a billion
Harvey Elliott has been rumored to be on his way out of Liverpool during the summer transfer window. According to The Sun, Brighton are interested in the player and are reportedly prepared to pay the slightly more than 500 million that Liverpool are asking for.
After today’s success, the price tag probably won’t have gone down immediately. During the tournament, the 22-year-old has scored four goals so far and is tied for second in the scoring league.
England will face the winner of Germany and France, who meet in the other semi-final.
Elliott also played in the previous U21 final. When England won gold after a 1–0 victory against Spain, he was substituted in the 82nd minute.
