NEW YORK. Pope Leo held a new mass in Anaheim last night.
He – yes, Leo Carlsson, that is – scored two goals when the Ducks beat Chicago 7-1, and thus the 20-year-old leaves the Swedish shooting league.
– Everything clicked in this match, he says.
For a period, the meeting between the young pop teams Anaheim and Chicago in the Honda Center was reasonably even.
But then the Ducks got some air under their wings, went up 5-0 in the second period and eventually won 7-1.
– This was good. Everything clicked. We took care of both blue lines, worked hard and spent a lot in their zone, says Leo Carlsson when he meets the media afterwards.¨
Yes, not least himself – the Pope in Anaheim. He was again prolific and scored twice; the first when he came lagging in a counterattack at the end of the second period and scored a neat shot on compatriot Arvid Söderblom, the second from close range in a power play fifteen seconds into the final period.
In total, the 20-year-old Värmlander is now up to sixteen goals and moves to the top of the blue-yellow shooting league. He has five goals to his credit on William Nylander and Mika Zibanejad.
Now he looks forward to continuing to feed pucks during a long road trip east.
– It was perfect that we got to win this last home game before the trip. Going to Pittsburgh after a loss would have been much tougher, it says.
