Huge blow in the Danish squad – Nadim withdrawn
The Danish European Championship squad had a blast.
Hammarby player Nadia Nadim has been selected.
The 37-year-old has not played for the national team since 2023.
Nadia Nadim joined Hammarby from Milan at the end of March but playing time for the Danish veteran has been limited after problems with an injured left foot.
Even when she has been healthy, the striker has often been outside the “Bajen” starting eleven. In the women’s Swedish national team, she has only made one start and played a total of 108 minutes, where she is noted for one goal.
But when Denmark’s national team captain, Swede Andrée Jeglertz, named his squad, Nadim was among the 23 players selected, which was a huge shock.
“I want to end in the best way”
The Dane has not played an international match since the end of 2023.
– I have done a lot for the national team. One of my big goals is that I want to finish in the best way. I have been thinking about finishing with Denmark for a while now, but I am trying to figure out when the right time is. I want to finish, but it has to be in a nice way and the European Championship would be perfect, Nadim told Sportbladet last winter.
Since then, Nadim has played 105 international matches and scored 38 goals.
Denmark meets Sweden in the European Championship premiere which will be played on July 4th.
