Gripen plane flew over Skåne: “Not an exercise”
Two Russian fighter jets have been identified over the southern Baltic Sea, writes Sydsvenskan.
Two Jas Gripen planes flew over Skåne at 7:15 p.m. on Midsummer Eve, writes Sydsvenskan.
– It was not an exercise, we have identified other aircraft, says Mikael Ågren, duty communications officer at the Swedish Armed Forces, to the newspaper.
The Gripen plane has identified two Russian SU 30 H fighter jets in the air over the southern Baltic Sea, reports Sydsvenskan. The Russian planes are said to have been over international airspace at the time.
– It has been increasing for a couple of weeks now. It probably has to do with both us and them practicing in and on the Baltic Sea, says Mikael Ågren to Sydsvenskan.
“Nothing for the Minister of Defense”
Expressen has contacted Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M). His press secretary Johan Hjelmstrand responds in a text message:
“What happened is within the normal course of events handled by the Armed Forces, so there is nothing for the Minister of Defense to comment on.”

The two Jas planes were back on the ground at 7:30 p.m. on Midsummer’s Eve.
