The Europaskolan's criticized alumni meeting is moved from Sagerska

The free school Europaskolan was to hold an alumni meeting in the prime minister’s official residence.

The event is now being moved from Sagerska.

The announcement comes after criticism of the dinner.

Around 50 people have been invited to the European School’s event on Wednesday. In addition to “simple pick-me-up food and non-alcoholic drinks”, a couple of short speeches and group discussions with former students are planned.

The dinner would have been held at Sagerska huset and the prime minister’s wife Birgitta Ed, who herself sits on the school’s board, was the invitee. The former national security advisor and Ulf Kristersson’s childhood friend Henrik Landerholm co-founded the school.

The list of speakers for the evening included, among others, Johan Stuart, the Prime Minister’s State Secretary.

Received criticism

The choice of location for the event has received criticism, including from S leader Magdalena Andersson who called it a “gala dinner”.

Corruption expert Olle Lundin also has strong objections.

– This will be obvious lobbying right into the prime minister’s home, he says to Dagens Nyheter, which first reported on the event.

On Wednesday, the same day that the alumni meeting was supposed to take place, the school announces that it has changed premises. The school has been informed that they can no longer have dinner at Sagerska, the school’s principal Marcus Lindvall tells P4 Sörmland.

The event has therefore been moved to another location in Stockholm.

To Expressen, principal Marcus Lindvall says that the purpose of the evening is to get more former students involved in the school.

– There will be a couple of short introductory speeches by the principal and two former students, but the main point is group discussions with the former students.

Hanna Strömberg, deputy press manager at the prime minister, writes in a text message:

We do not comment on the private meetings of the Prime Minister’s wife“.
