Emil’s mobile phone fell into the sea – found two years later

Emil Johansson had only had his mobile phone for two weeks when he dropped it in the sea outside Helsingborg.

Two years later, it was found by a diver and now it is back in the 21-year-old’s possession – and works flawlessly.

– It’s absolutely crazy, he says.

Emil Johansson had had his iPhone for two weeks when he accidentally dropped it into the ocean in June 2023.

He threw off his clothes and jumped in, but after 15 minutes of diving he gave up and was forced to come to terms with the fact that the phone was gone forever.

Until last Thursday, that was also completely true. But the day before Midsummer, he received a text message from a German number.

A person stated that his phone had been found – in the sea outside Helsingborg – and was working. The person suggested that they meet up.

– We divided a little, it felt a little crazy. It was true that I had dropped my phone in the water, but it still felt a little… but I thought: “What the hell, what could happen?”

– I went and picked it up. It was a German man who said it was his daughter who had dived and found the phone.

Bought lottery tickets – won

The phone worked perfectly. His old wallpaper was still there, as were all the apps and notes.

– It has some small scratches on the screen, but nothing major. It’s sick as hell.

– It’s just that it’s been in the ocean for two years. It works flawlessly, the sound, the mic, everything. It’s fully functional, that’s what’s so crazy.

Once back home, pressure came from his family to continue on his journey.

– Grandma and grandpa told me to buy lottery tickets. I bought four tickets and won 60 kronor, he says and continues:

– That day, a lot of things fell into place. It wasn’t just that, I had just started working and didn’t think I would get paid, but then I got my pay stub, and the phone and the lottery tickets.
