The map system in Kalmar County’s ambulances is often affected by problems. According to Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M), Russia or Belarus is behind the GPS disorders, reports P4 Kalmar.

– We are deeply critical of the Russian action in this respect, and we know that these disturbances come either from Russia or from Belarus, the Defense Minister told the channel.

According to Pål Jonson, there may be various reasons for the Russian action.

– It can sometimes be about performing exercises, and it can be about implementing safeguards for their transport, he adds, and says it threatens civil aviation and affects commercial shipping.

The problems may, among other things, mean that map images freeze or that it looks like the ambulance is running in an illogical place – for example in the sea. Ambulance drivers have sometimes been forced to use physical maps to find the right one when they went out on alarms.

The Swedish Agency for Social Protection and Preparedness has previously stated that it is very likely to be Russian disruptions, especially when it is ambulances near the Baltic Sea coast that are affected.

GPS disorders have become a growing problem lately. In 2023, 55 GPS disorders were registered against Sweden. Until September this year, this is the number 733. According to the Swedish Transport Agency, the disturbances will come from Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg, among others.
