Crowded in Broloppet − runners irritated

It was crowded at the finish line of Broloppet.

The competitors were asked to stop their watches to get an accurate finishing time.

The bridge race crossed the Öresund Bridge between Denmark and Sweden on Sunday and it got crowded when 40,000 people ran together.

Sydsvenskan writes about congestion at the finish line – a congestion that prompted the organizer to issue a call to the competitors via the loudspeaker system.

Runners were asked to stop their own watches to get a more accurate finish time, as the line to the finish line was long.

”Annoyed”

Sydsvenskan reports a good atmosphere in the race but that “many are irritated” about having been denied the chance to run all the way to the finish line.

“Now there are so many people that the runners can barely get across the finish line,” the newspaper wrote in its live report when the crowds were at their worst.

Sportbladet spoke with Broloppet’s press officer Lisa Nilsson when the congestion at the finish line had eased.

– The last brave heroes are doing everything they can with the strength they have left in their legs. We had a jam for about 45 minutes. Then it became a quiet lull. It didn’t stand completely still for more than maybe 30 seconds, says Nilsson.

Seven to hospital

SVT reports that seven runners have been taken to hospital by ambulance in connection with the race. Their injuries are unclear.

It is not uncommon for people to need medical care after races held during hot summer days.

– I can confirm that people have been taken away, says Lisa Nilsson.

David Nilsson won the men’s race and Sarah Bruun, from Denmark, won the women’s race.
