A child is being treated in hospital with serious injuries after an accident in a snow pile on a schoolyard in Nordanstig municipality.

The accident happened just after 3pm on Monday when the child, a primary school student, got stuck in a snow cave which collapsed.
The child was pulled out by school staff and received cardiopulmonary resuscitation by the emergency services on site. The student was then taken by ambulance to hospital, where the person is now being treated for his injuries. According to P4 Gävleborg, the condition is serious.

Several students and staff witnessed the incident. During the afternoon, the school focused on providing support to children and staff, and parents were asked to collect their children.
– This is an extremely sad event that we all – students and employees – need to process. Student health with a counselor will therefore be on site and we are reinforcing with substitutes to support everyone who wants to talk and process the incident, says director of education Ulrika Segervald in a statement on the municipality’s website.
The police have documented the scene of the accident and drawn up a report of causing bodily harm in order to be able to investigate the course of events. There are no suspects in the case.
