The Moderates require changes from SVT after yesterday’s party leadership debate.

The program managers agree that the temperature was high – but do not believe in silencing the microphones.

– After all, they are adults and have a great responsibility themselves to ensure that the debate is reasonable, says Anders Holmberg.

Sunday night’s party leadership debate in SVT offered several intense moments. Particularly represented was the V leader Nooshi Dadgostar where the program managers were allowed to intervene with Ebba Busch (KD) about the Gaza War.

Ulf Kristersson (M) calls the debate “Terrible” and Magdalena Andersson said afterwards:

– This was probably not the best show we have seen in Swedish democracy.

The requirement for SVT

Kristersson’s Press Manager Siri Steijer writes on X that she made requirements to SVT that the microphones should be shut down.

“If not, I will recommend the Prime Minister not to participate in the future,” it says in an email to SVT, which Steijer shares on X.

Program leaders Anders Holmberg and Camilla Kvartoft do not want to comment on the requirement, but none of them believe in suspended microphones as a solution in the debates.

– I believe more in the moment trying to talk and tell the politicians that it is a good idea if they talk one at a time and then possibly that they go home and reflect a bit on how they want it themselves in these debates, says Holmberg.

On the other hand, they agree that there was a little more noise than during previous debates.

– We tried to make them not talk to each other and I have a hard time seeing that you can do more than that. It must be everyone’s responsibility to actually listen to each other anyway, says Camilla Kvartoft.

Michael Kope is responsible publisher for “Agenda” and says in a comment that it is unfortunate when one or more interrupt each other in the debate.

Our attitude is that the audience should be able to expect the leaders of Sweden’s eight parliamentary parties to be able to participate in a political debate and take responsibility for listening when others talk and wait for their turn“, He writes.

He believes that it would be a sub -grade to Swedish politics if SVT had to turn off the mic.

In addition, it is every editorial that determines the form of its debate, not the Cabinet of Ministers”, Writes Michael Kope.

“Emotions and strong opinions”

Anders Holmberg thinks they made “good many and real attempts” to get the participants to speak one at a time.

– Then I am not an opponent for being hot exchanges of meaning. These are emotions and strong opinions. That it is also visible in and heard in the debate I think is included in politics, says Anders Holmberg.

Ulf Kristerson tells Expressen that SVT should act so that everyone can speak to the point.

– I thought it was a terrible show. I don’t understand why you don’t just turn off the microphone when people refuse to be silent when others talk, says Kristersson.
