MEcamping: Christmas Joy Returns

Pia bullar upp med kvällssnacks

For a few years now, we have had a tradition together with Pia and Stefan – Christmas table with knorr. This year the trip went to Frimis in Örebro.

As early as Friday evening, we were supposed to meet them on Skyttegatan. We stand on that street, almost always, when we visit Örebro. Quiet, leafy, next to Wadköping and only a 10-minute walk to the center.
When we arrived, Pia and Stefan had just arrived. After a little fix with spinning of chairs and spiffing up, we were seen inside their mobile home. Cheese, crackers, good drinks and laughter made the night much longer than expected. So lovely to hang out with friends who make you forget time.

Örebro is Sweden’s seventh largest city, yet we were able to sleep undisturbed until well into the morning. Yes, Örebro may not have all the creds for our sleepover. Bottles of bubbly and the occasional glass of whiskey meant that our heads preferred to lie off on a cool and fluffy pillow rather than jogging in freezing temperatures or hysterically jumping on Christmas presents. When we had gathered enough energy, Majk and I took a chilly walk through the city park. In the Stadsträdgården restaurant, we each ate a saffron bun (they also serve super good pizzas) before walking back to the cars.

When we were warm again, Pia and Stefan came in to us. Also this weekend we did a Christmas beer tasting. We found a couple of exciting beers that were more fun than downright good, but we’ve at least realized that all Christmas beer isn’t just dark and bitter, but can serve as a fun thing to gather around. The afternoon rolled on with lots of laughs and suddenly it became a rush. It was time to get ready for the evening’s event – Christmas show with dinner at Frimurarholmen in the middle of central Örebro.

Another brisk walk through the city park, but now illuminated by thousands of light sources. However, there were only a few lights left because the following weekend was the start of the Örebro winter festival and The Magic Forest, the light festival we now got a taste of. As the pace had been reduced in the city park, we had to increase it for the last kilometer. When we arrived at Frimis, we were both out of breath and red-cheeked.

It was lucky that we had talked a lot both the night before and in the afternoon. Because inside at the Christmas table itself, we could barely hear each other. The hum of all the tables around us bounced off the wooden ceiling. We simply had to let the food keep our mouths shut, and it also worked out fine because the food was good and, as usual at Christmas dinners, in large quantities. When we had just sat down with coffee and dessert, the show broke loose. Then it jumped and bounced up on stage to old “dängs” for just over an hour. Bit by bit the roof lifted and a concert feeling set in. When the show was over and the murmur again occupied the room, we slipped out to the closet and made a quick exit. We ended the evening at Pia and Stefan’s. Finally we could hear our own voices again. Lovely! 😉

On Sunday, we finished our Örebro weekend with a Christmas market in Wadköping. The area is quite large and there were lots of stalls. Since we were parked right next door, we were among the first visitors, and it was nice. By the time we felt ready, the alleys had been filled with top hats, prams and dogs on leashes. Perfect to get into a warm car and drive home.

Thanks for another lovely weekend, Pia and Stefan. This tradition is really perfect for getting into the Christmas spirit. Well thought of by us! 👍🏻
