New measurement: Åkesson is closing in on Andersson
Election 2026

Confidence in Jimmie Åkesson breaks records – and he is approaching Magdalena Andersson at the top.

That is what the latest SvD/Demoskop survey shows.

According to the survey for December, 42 percent of the respondents state that they have great confidence in Åkesson. It is his highest rating so far in Demoskop’s surveys of trust in the party leaders, which are carried out on behalf of Svenska Dagbladet.

At the same time, 45 percent state that they have high confidence in Andersson, which means that the difference between the two party leaders is now only three percentage points – the smallest since Andersson took office as S leader in November 2021.

In August 2025, the gap was still nine percentage points.

– It’s actually exciting, something has really happened. He is seen as a more normal political character, but that is not entirely new, he has been doing that for quite some time, says Johan Martinsson, head of opinion at Demoskop.

The C leader – not a smash hit

After Åkesson comes Moderat leader Ulf Kristersson and KD leader Ebba Busch, who both get the result 38 percent in fairly or very high confidence – a decrease of one percent for Kristersson and an increase of two percent for Busch since the last survey.

There is a clear difference between the MP leaders, with 24 percent expressing confidence in Amanda Lind, while the figure is 14 percent for Daniel Helldén. Between them is Nooshi Dadgostar (V) at 18 percent.

Center leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist makes her first result in the survey with 10 percent confidence, on par with what new party leaders usually perform.

The Liberals continue to struggle – where party leader Simona Mohamsson only reaches 6 percent in confidence, while the percentage of voters who have low confidence in her has risen sharply.

About the trust measurement

The trust question measures voters’ confidence in the party leaders’ ability to do a good job as a politician, and SvD/Demoskop’s survey is based on interviews with 2,162 people during November and December 2025.
