The housing company in Brunnsbo in Gothenburg has encountered an odd problem.
Residents throw their garbage out the windows.
Now they are going out with an appeal in the area.
In Brunnsbo in Gothenburg, notices from the municipal Housing Company have recently been put up. The message is clear: it is forbidden to throw garbage from the windows. Neighbors can injure themselves and the piles of waste become a haven for rats.
The entire Hisingen was the first to report on the unfortunate garbage situation. According to the newspaper, the problem occurs in several places, but this summer Bostadsbolaget noticed an increase in the area.
According to Göteborgs-Posten, it is about household waste that has been thrown out of windows and from balconies. Used diapers have ended up on the outside of the houses and in some cases even furniture has been thrown out.
– If you throw things out, an accident will happen sooner or later. If you throw something out from the eighth floor, it doesn’t have to be that big to actually kill someone, says Kim Stals, who is Bostadsbolaget’s manager in the area, to GP.
Risk losing the apartment
The housing company has approximately 1,200 rental properties in Brunnsbo. The garbage chaos has meant that they have been forced to spend approximately 40 hours a week picking up the trash.
Time that could have been spent on other things – such as making the area nice instead, says Kim Stals.
They have had conversations with people they know have littered and they have been able to receive a disturbance fee. In case of repeated littering, they risk losing the apartment.
But it is only about a few who misbehave, points out Kim Stals. Anyone who sees litter is encouraged to report it.
– Help us keep the area nice. I’m leaving here at five o’clock in the evening, but I feel sorry for the people who live in the area. It’s their living room, he says to GP.
