Kidnapped Ukrainian children have become a pawn in the negotiations for a future peace between Ukraine and Russia. Exactly how many are involved is unclear, but according to estimates it could be as many as 35,000.

Ukrainian authorities and volunteers are constantly working to locate abducted children in order to return them and bring the kidnappers to justice. So far, roughly 1,800 children have been returned or fled themselves, according to a Ukrainian organization.
