Four Swedes hospitalized – catamaran capsized in Croatia
Four Swedes have been taken to hospital after a catamaran capsized in Croatia on Monday, the Swedish Foreign Ministry said.
A sudden storm capsized the boat, throwing nine people, including seven Swedes, into the sea.
A nearby sailboat rescued the passengers.
Seven Swedish tourists were thrown into the sea when a catamaran capsized off the island of Kaprije in Croatia, Croatian media reports. A German and a Croatian citizen also ended up in the water.
The Croatian weather service has issued severe weather warnings following the accident. An upcoming thunderstorm could be followed by storms and hurricane-force winds on Monday, the warning states.
Foreign Ministry: Four Swedes hospitalized
Several foreign nationals were taken to hospital in the nearby tourist resort of Sibenik. Their condition has not been reported.
The Swedish Foreign Ministry is aware of the accident.
“Seven Swedish citizens were on the boat, four of whom have been taken to hospital in Sibenik for follow-up. The embassy is in contact with the local hospital,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ press service writes to Expressen.

Sudden storm
A sudden storm in the generally unstable weather caused the boat to capsize. The Sibenik Maritime Police Station received an alarm about a maritime accident at 11:35 on Monday.
A police boat was quickly on the scene and was able to bring all nine ashore, Croatian media reports. People on a nearby sailboat also helped rescue the people who had ended up in the water.
The accident took place near the historic town of Sibenik, the oldest town on the Croatian coast. It is a popular tourist destination, as is the entire surrounding archipelago.
