Strömmer’s warning after the arrest

Gang leader Ismail Abdo has been hiding from justice abroad for several years.

But on Friday night he was arrested along with a number of other people in Turkey.

When or how he may be brought to trial for the crimes he is suspected of having committed in Sweden is unclear.

Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer describes the arrest as the result of enhanced cooperation between the countries.

– The person has been suspected for a long time of having directed and organized serious crime in and against Sweden. The arrest is a result of determined police and legal work, and in-depth cooperation between Sweden and Turkey. I would like to extend special thanks to the Turkish police for this successful operation, he says in a comment.

He sends a warning to other Swedish criminals hiding abroad.

– The message to all Swedish criminals hiding abroad is clear and unambiguous: You are not safe anywhere. You will be found, arrested and prosecuted. And you will lose your assets, says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer.

Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya also sends his thanks for the cooperation.

“I would like to thank the Swedish and Norwegian police authorities for their support for the operations,” he writes in a post on X.

According to the Turkish minister, a large quantity of drugs was found during the operation. Assets worth around SEK 360 million were reportedly seized in the operation.
