Zverev’s fiasco – out of Wimbledon
It wasn’t a long Wimbledon tournament for world number three Alexander Zverev.
The German was eliminated in the first round.
Zverev lost the marathon match against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech after five dramatic sets – 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (8-10), 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4.
Rinderknech is ranked 72nd in the world.
– It’s my first victory against a top five player, in the biggest arena in the world, in front of my family. I’m so happy to do it in front of them, it’s a fantastic moment for me and for them, says Rinderknech after the shock.
The match began on Monday evening, but had to be interrupted as the clock began to get late. The meeting resumed today, and lasted a total of 4 hours and 40 minutes.
– My legs are still shaking. I’m just so happy the match is over. We started yesterday, I slept about 6 hours last night. So yes, this sport is very difficult, but what a moment, what emotions, says Rinderknech.
