The government’s response regarding the minister’s relative

The minister reacted immediately to the information about a close relative’s connections to violent right-wing extremism, a person close to the government says.

The minister’s close relatives have participated in several activities with the Nazi Aktivklubb Sverige, had contact with a member of the Nordic Resistance Movement, and put up right-wing extremist stickers. Among them is one with the words “white zone”. This is reported by the anti-racist newspaper Expo.

The latest contact that Expo reports was with Aktivklubb Sverige.

Active clubs are a fairly new type of right-wing extremist group in Sweden, which attracts members through, among other things, martial arts. The police assess in an intelligence report that Active Club Sweden “has access to weapons and explosives and is actively working to improve its combat capabilities,” writes Expo.

The Government Office’s Deputy Director of Communications, Linda Hallenberg, states in a comment that the relative is not a public figure.

– The security of the ministers is a matter for Säpo and further questions are referred to them. Säpo has information about this.

In several anonymous social media accounts, the relative has shared and interacted with right-wing extremist content.

One account is more private and follows the minister and other relatives. The account is followed back by the minister. That account is also used to have contact with right-wing extremists.

“Has been moving in the wrong circles”

The account follows and is followed by several right-wing extremists, writes Expo.

Expo further reports that during the year the relative has taken an increasingly leading role in a chat group for the Nazi Free Sweden. Among other things, the person has taken responsibility for organizing meetings.

Last fall, the person wrote about plans to participate in Aktivklubb Sverige’s demonstration in Kungsträdgården, on the anniversary of Charles XII’s death.

The person with insight into the government states that they see the information about the relative’s involvement as exaggerated. The relative is also said to have left the right-wing extremist environment “a long time ago”.

– The person is not suspected of any crime as far as I know, but has moved in the wrong circles. However, the information about the person’s active role is greatly exaggerated.
