Duplantis won with a new race record
Mondo Duplantis, 25, set a new competition record in Ostrava.
He won the gala and jumped over 6.13 meters.
– It wasn’t really a full tank, says Duplantis.
There were a couple of unexpected upsets on the way to victory in the pole vault competition at the Continental Tour in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
Mondo Duplantis once broke both 5.62 and 5.92. But then he showed his usual pace.
The Swede won ahead of the Greek Emmanouli Karalis, who jumped 5.92.
New competition record
This evening there was no new world record for Duplantis after the great success at the Stockholm stadium nine days ago.
But it was still a competition record because he raised the bar to 6.13 meters and passed. It was one centimeter higher than his own previous competition record.
Duplantis had a margin of error when he broke the competition record, but he failed to jump over the world record height of 6.29 meters in any of his three attempts.
Didn’t have a full tank
Duplantis says he enjoyed competing.
– It’s always fun to jump here in Ostrava. It was a beautiful day with nice weather and I can’t ask for much more, he says in SVT’s broadcast.
Duplantis was happy with 6.13.
– Yes, absolutely. The jump felt really good considering what I felt I had in my body. It wasn’t quite a full tank, so 6.13 feels really good.
square3
Duplantis was not the only Swede at the gala.
Samuel Pihlström ran 1,500 meters in a time of 3:31.18, which made him come sixth in the race.
Wictor Petersson threw 20.80 meters and finished fourth in the shot put competition.
