Teacher raped children in Borås – released before new sentence
The Borås teacher has served a prison sentence for sex crimes against 15 children.
A new trial has been held against him for more sex crimes at the school, but he has not been detained pending sentencing – and he will be released on Sunday.
Now the municipality is informing about the court case that may “arouse emotions”. Latest news clips from Expressen.
In the fall of 2022, the teacher was convicted of sex crimes against 15 girls and boys at a primary and secondary school in Borås where he worked. The most serious crime was the rape of a girl.
The man has been diagnosed with pedophilia, for which he received treatment – while working at the school.
– And that’s probably wrong, one can conclude in retrospect, but he must have somehow thought and believed that he would be able to handle this, but he obviously hasn’t, his defense attorney Lars Almlöf has previously said.
The teacher was sentenced to four and a half years in prison. He will be released on parole on Sunday. He is now in his 30s.
A new trial has now been held against him for a series of other crimes against six children at the same school. The crimes, mainly sexual assaults, are alleged to have been committed between 2017 and 2021, which is roughly the same time period as the crimes for which he has already been convicted.
Released
The prosecutor requested that the man be held in custody pending the verdict, which will be delivered on Monday. But the district court has chosen to release him, reports Borås tidning.
His defense attorney Margareta Esplund tells the newspaper that the crimes he is now charged with should be assessed in the same way as if they had already been tried in the previous trial.
– Then the crimes with the lowest penalty values, which are here, don’t really have any effect once you reach a certain number of crimes, she tells Borås newspaper.
The municipality’s advice to worried parents
Borås Municipality has now published information on its website about the legal case. The municipality notes that what happened may raise questions among guardians about whether their children may also be vulnerable.
“It is important to remember not to pressure the child or young person to tell. Instead, try to talk to them in a calm and safe environment, where you listen carefully to what they want to share – without judging or stressing out any story,” writes the municipality.
