Police warn of “drunkenness”

Extensive and organized sales of “booze” are currently underway in Sweden.

Via social media, mainly Snapchat, mislabeled bottles with toxic contents are being sold as alcohol.

The police are now warning of a “great risk of injury” for young people craving alcohol this summer.Latest news clips from Expressen.

Recently, hundreds of bottles of so-called “foul spirit” have been seized by the police and customs.

The bottles have a label that resembles the liquor brand Smirnoffs, but are “clearly fake,” according to police. The contents of the bottles have been analyzed and have been found to consist of several toxic substances – ethanol, glycerol and benzalkonium.

Risk of being seriously injured

Anyone who drinks the liquid in the bottles risks serious injuries, police say.

Therefore, all young people are urged to think twice before being tempted to buy alcohol via apps.

– Do not buy alcohol via social media! Do not drink this type of booze, but preferably not any other alcohol either, says Ola Åkesson, municipal police officer at Kungsholmen LPO Lidingö-Kungsholmen.

Social media is singled out

The warning has gone out on social media.

“Dear young people! Do not buy alcohol via social media,” the police wrote in a post on Instagram. According to the police, the illegal trade is mainly taking place on Snapchat.

“We obviously want to reduce the risk of serious injuries but also to think about who is behind this type of manufacturing/sales.”

The police are taking “very seriously” the fact that young people are buying fake alcohol and want to inform both parents and young people about the dangers of the drink.

Anyone who knows anything about who sells or manufactures the fake spirit is urged to tip the police via their digital channels.
