49,000 empty seats during the Club World Cup

Chelsea faced Los Angeles FC in their first match in the Club World Cup.

Then the stands at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta were empty.

The arena holds 71,000 spectators, but the official crowd figure was 22,137 when Chelsea made their debut in the Club World Cup.

According to the BBC, Fifa expected around 26,000 spectators, but despite reports that tickets were sold out before the match, the attendance was even lower.

The soundstage of the match was dominated by around 150 LAFC supporters, despite Chelsea having more fans in attendance.

Chelsea took a fairly safe 2–0 victory and the London team’s goals were scored by Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernández.

Chelsea played at the same stadium two years ago, but then more people wanted to come. It was almost sold out when Chelsea faced Newcastle in a friendly match in Atlanta in 2023.
