Russian superstar dies in traffic accident

Nikolai Krasnikov is dead.

One of the world’s best ice racing drivers of all time turned 40.

– The question is whether there has been anyone as good, says Swedish legend Posa Serenius.

The International Motorcycling Federation writes about Krasnikov’s death on its website. The Russian ice racing driver died in a traffic accident on Monday.

– It’s tragic, says Posa Serenius, 77.

Sweden’s best driver of all time knew Krasnikov when they were both active.

– I went to many competitions with him. I went almost everywhere in Russia and went with him, says Serenius.

Eight consecutive World Cup gold medals

Serenius used to talk to Krasnikov.

– He was always nice, if you needed help or something. He even borrowed an engine from me once.

Krasnikov won eight consecutive individual World Championship gold medals from 2005–2012 and a total of 20 World Championship gold medals if you include the team competitions. He is considered one of the world’s best ice racing drivers of all time.

– He was great at riding. He was really good. The question is whether there has been anyone as good as him, says Posa Serenius.

Trucks collided

Krasnikov died in an accident in Bashkortostan. His car was hit when two oncoming trucks collided with each other.

Krasnikov died before medical help could arrive.

“He did a tremendous amount to help motorsport and ice racing develop. Not only in our country, but throughout the world,” Bashkortostan’s Minister of Sports Ruslan Khabibov told Match TV.
