New heat record for this year – close to 30 degrees in Småland
Several places in the country reached a new annual high in terms of temperature on Sunday.
In the capital, it has been bright sunshine and 29.5 degrees.
– But from what we can see now, Stockholm has been beaten at the finish line, says meteorologist Johan Groth.Latest news clips from Expressen.
Sun worshippers have had a brilliant weekend with a new year’s high in temperatures in several places around the country. Including in Stockholm, where it was 29.5 degrees during the day.
– But from what we can see now, Stockholm has been beaten at the finish line by Målilla in Småland, where it has been 29.9 degrees, says Johan Groth, meteorologist at Stormgeo.
However, the last word has not been said, because the final measurements will be taken at 8pm tonight. That will give us a definitive answer as to where it has been the warmest and whether the temperature has exceeded 30 degrees anywhere in the country.
Rain coming in
But just in time for the temperature report, many people have to pack up their swimsuits and cover the grill – at least temporarily.
– This evening a front with rain showers will arrive in western Sweden, which will move in over eastern Götaland and Svealand during the night, says Johan Groth.
Monday and Tuesday will see variable cloudiness, with temperatures around 20 degrees. Further north it will be more unstable, cooler and precipitation is expected in several places.
“The heat won’t come back”
At the same time, many people have begun preparing for Friday’s celebration, with packing lists and travel itineraries.
– The big travel day before midsummer may be cloudy with a risk of some showers. When you wake up on Friday it will probably be quite clear in Götaland, Svealand and along the Norrland coast, says Johan Groth and continues:
– The heat won’t return, but it could still be pretty nice weather.
