REVEALED: Peter Wettergren agrees with Malmö FF – becomes assistant coach

Here is the coaching bomb in the Allsvenskan.

According to Sportbladet, former assistant national coach Peter Wettergren has reached an agreement with Malmö FF – and is expected to take on a role as assistant coach.

If nothing unforeseen happens, it is expected to be official within the next week.

Peter Wettergren is one of the most sought-after names in Swedish football. He has previously been a coach at Elfsborg and enjoyed great success with the Swedish national team during the Janne Andersson era, where he was Andersson’s right-hand man during the successful blue-yellow years with a quarter-final in the World Cup in Russia 2018 as his main merit.

He has previously turned down the job as assistant coach at Feyenoord and Lech Poznan, as well as turning down a number of other Allsvenskan jobs and has previously also worked as assistant coach for Ståle Solbakken at FC Copenhagen.

According to Sportbladet, he has now agreed with Malmö FF on a role as assistant coach, where he will join Henrik Rydström’s staff.

The parties have agreed and if nothing unforeseen happens, it will be official that he will take over as assistant coach within the next week. M

FF has been looking for a new assistant after Julían Marín Bazalo leaves the club.

Sportbladet has unsuccessfully sought a comment from Peter Wettergren, who has worked as Technical Director at the Swedish Football Association since 2023.
