Police: SVT has not reported the attacks to the police

The police state that they have not received any report from SVT about the double overload attacks.

Without a report, the criminal investigation cannot be started.

SVT was subjected to denial-of-service attacks on Sunday and Monday that led to problems with the site and app.

– The one we had on Sunday night is the biggest one Sveriges Television has ever been hit by, says Technical Director Adde Granberg to SVT News.

It is described as a coordinated attack with traffic from different countries.

The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, MSB, has been called in to investigate the incident.

But the police have not received any report from SVT.

– We still haven’t received any police reports. Generally, when it comes to this type of crime, it’s problematic for us when police reports aren’t filed early, says Stockholm Police press spokesman Daniel Wikdahl.

Hurry to get started

Just as with physical crimes, the time aspect is very important in the investigation of cybercrime, says Wikdahl.

– We need to get started and secure traces. In this case, it’s digital traces, and they tend to disappear.

And the police can’t file a report on their own initiative?

– No, we need a report from them.

– The information I have is that a report has been filed and that SVT has assisted the police in contacts during the day, she says.

Do you know if you have filed a police report?

– No.

Daniel Wikdahl at the police confirms that the police and SVT have been in contact during the day but maintains that no report has been received.
