PRO base: “The banks laughed at me”
Tens of thousands of affected pensioners were not enough for the banks to act against the wave of fraud. The turning point in the banks’ work was a meeting with an upset prime minister, according to SvD’s investigation.
It starts with a mass mailing of text messages, with information that the recipient has ordered an item.
The text message also contains a phone number that goes to the fraudster. When the recipient calls the fraudster, who often pretends to work at the recipient’s bank, they are convinced that a fraud is taking place and are then persuaded to transfer their money to an account that the fraudster has at their disposal.
