Thunberg’s boat picked up migrants
Four migrants in distress at sea have been picked up by the ship carrying activist Greta Thunberg towards Gaza.
Up to 40 migrants were on Thursday in an inflatable boat that quickly lost air in the Mediterranean Sea south of Crete. Nearby was the ship Madleen, whose crew of activists – including Swedish Greta Thunberg – say they are trying to transport supplies to Gaza.
As the Madleen approached the scene, four of the people in distress reportedly jumped into the water to avoid being taken into custody by a Libyan coast guard vessel. The people were picked up by the Madleen’s crew, while the rest of the migrants were picked up by the coast guard for transport to Libya.
The twelve activists aboard Madleen began their journey on Sunday.
